Running

Today when I browsing through the Facebook, so happened that I saw Sister Beam shared a post on her page. It was a post written by her brother about his journey on running.

It was so co-incident and at the right time, in the midst of what I am doing now for this week! It indeed motivate me! Thus, there were some thoughts in my mind that I would like to share and thanks Sister Beam:

Dear Beam, I am glad that you have shared your brother's thoughts about running. It is just like, "Hey, it is exactly how I felt for this week, and Bingo! I am doing the right thing!"

For the past 25 over years, to get moving for exercise is a no, no, no for me!

Last week I had read somewhere at the Facebook about how to become a happier woman?

"First of all, be happy. How to do it ? As long as your husband’s matter is not excessive and doesn’t step on your bottom line, just open one eye and close one eye, and ignore him.

Care about him too much, put the spotlight on him, he will suffocate to death, you will have hormonal imbalance, why bother?

Love yourself more, focus on yourself, find the things and people you like to fill the blank spaces in your life, and make yourself happy.

Occasionally, have some parent-child activities with your husband and children, talk about some common topics, and have a common happiness goal.

In this way, you will be a lot happier, and he will love you more and more, because you are improving and becoming more charming.

If you are happy, the people around you will be happy too.

Next, in addition to eating healthy, getting enough sleep and drinking plenty of water is exercise.

Yes, exercise is the key!

To be honest, I have not seen an "ugly woman" who exercises regularly and is happy both physically and mentally.

Women who love sports will exude a unique charm, not only appearance, but also temperament. Exercise is the cheapest and most effective skin care product."

And because of this sharing on the Facebook, I had determined to set a goal to run just to kick off this new goal of mine, considering my age and my ‘shape’ and it is critical to start immediately.

So I goggle on the internet and make a plan how to start running even if I never exercise before.

So here come my 1st week is to just get moving by walking first. Every morning this week onward, I will - from my first walkout 15 mins to goal walkout 60 mins till end of this year.

I was pretty excited, as I started this last Monday. I hope and want to keep on doing this walking - running that I had planned for.

During my every morning walk, there are thoughts that come into my minds: Hey, this is not difficult to achieve, bit by bit and do it everyday, and slightly increase the walkout time by 2-3 mins and eventually 5-10mins. And, I can do it!

This little goal of mine had make me think of living in the gospel.

It is exactly the same thing to do: improve ourselves little by little to become more like Jesus Christ, through His commandments and our covenants – pray daily, reading the scriptures, attend the Church weekly and renew our covenants with Him, how we keep our covenants by doing it little by little, He will reveal to us line upon line, precept upon precept if we keep on trying to become a better person.

Faith too, is the same. Faith is present continuous tense. Faith is the action taken doing it after what I believe.

Faith is … searching the scriptures; helping a needy cross the busy road; feeding the hungry.. it is series of an action to achieve a higher level of Faith of what we believe in.

Testimony too, is the same. It is gained after we are gaining experience, we were gaining experience after we are doing it or we were doing it.

I like what your brother said about,

“learning by action is better, more effective.
.
.
Running for me is learning by taking action.”

And I think I feel the same after I start to ‘walk’ this week, and I know I will start to run next January.

How grateful I am that I can still walk and run every morning.

I know that this little Running goal of mine will help me to explore more possibilities and potentials that I myself not yet even discover even though I am at my age of 45 this year and going to be 46 next year.

I feel thankful for your sharing that remind of me as it is the messages that the Lord would wants me to know and do.

Thank you so much! And love you and your family too!

A Small Journal for A Sister

I received a text message from Sister Sophia last two weeks ago. It was a Sunday night. She told me that she might need a new journal book, as her current one already filled with her testimony.

This message brings some joy to me. I have been encourage the sisters in Relief Society to write down their testimonies ever since I have been called as the Relief Society President.

Our baptismal covenant is to remember Jesus Christ, by writing down our testimonies is one of the ways that we remember Him. I believe that writing our own testimonies into the journal or any kind of gratitude journal is a way to remind ourselves, what God had done for us and how we can see His hand in our life.

I did tell the sisters that they can ask from me anytime if they want a second book after they finish their first book. Sister Sophia is the first sister that asked me for a second journal book. I feel so encourage as there is someone indeed listen into her heart and writing her testimonies become an important part of her life.

Buying a simple note book from shop, searching for their favourite scripture versus and general conference quote online, getting to print it out and plastic laminated and paste them as the cover of the journal, decorate the inner cover page with some other general conference quotes – that is how I normally do for the journal that I want to gift to the sisters.

It cost a little may be is RM10.00 per journal book, but I feel joy when I see and hear when the sisters benefited from this small little journal book that I gift them.

After Issac’s art class at Citta Mall, I drove to Puchong Mas where Sister Sophia lives. I met with her mum Sister Teresa, to pass her the journal book as she was still working and not at home. We have a brief chat as the Condominium Building Management, just checked on each other how were things going on lately.

I received a text from Sister Sophia in the evening that she likes the journal book very much. I just replied her that she is most welcome to look for me after she finish this new journal book of her.

I am grateful that at least I have a chance to serve the sisters in the branch, hope to bring a little bit of light to the sisters in the branch.

How Do I #HearHim?

~ Sister E Chin Yong E Chin

"In both ancient and modern times, God introduced His Beloved Son, Jesus Christ, and invited those seeking direction to “hear Him” (Matthew 17:5). In 1820, a young man’s willingness to follow that invitation ultimately led to the Restoration of Christ’s Church on the earth (see Joseph Smith—History 1:17). Two hundred years later, the invitation to hear Him is given to each of us."

"When we take time to listen with our hearts, the heavens open and He speaks. Jesus taught that He is “the light of the world” and those who follow Him “shall not walk in darkness” (John 8:12)."

"God still speaks today, and the joyful call remains to hear Him. As you listen to Jesus Christ, you will feel His love for you. As you #HearHim and act on what you hear, you will feel the joy and fulfillment His words bring to all who seek Him."

By listening and hearken to the invitation extended by our prophet, Sister Yong E Chin reflected and share with us how she hear Him through prayers, reading the scriptures and slowing down listen to the hymns.

Please do come in and listen what she would like to share with you, the joy that she experienced in her journey to #HearHim.

The Importance of the Home & The Family

~ Sister Amy Lee Lim

What Does Home Mean to You?

What is the "Family" in Your Mind?

In a world of turmoil and uncertainty, it is more important than ever to make our families the centre of our lives and the top of our priorities. The Family is ordained of God. Families lie at the centre of our Heavenly Father’s plan.

This statement from “The Family: A Proclamation to the World” declares the responsibilities of parents to their families:

“Husband and wife have a solemn responsibility to love and care for each other and for their children. ‘Children are an heritage of the Lord’ (Psalms 127:3). Parents have a sacred duty to rear their children in love and righteousness, to provide for their physical and spiritual needs, to teach them to love and serve one another, to observe the commandments of God and to be law-abiding citizens wherever they live. Husbands and wives—mothers and fathers—will be held accountable before God for the discharge of these obligations.”

With this belief in mind, Sister Amy came to know about The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints in one occasion. She learned about the restored gospel and the Church teachings humbly, working hard in ensuring her home is a safe and warm place that her family can go to, no matter what circumstances happened.

Please do come in and listen what she would like to share with you.

May it be our resolve this year to build a gospel-centred home, a safe harbour from the storms of the adversary.

Mum in Memories…

d89b3ae0-dc37-400d-a774-74184eea0691

Got this photo of mum when papa posted on the family group chat. It is an old photo of her wearing a little bit of American Cowboy style and it was taken at grand mum's shop lot at Labis. I was may be around kindergarten age.

Frankly I do not know her. I did not talk with her much as I was newly working at Kuala Lumpur, and I did not go back home town most of the time. Spending my time concentrate on my career and job.

I missed her so after I became a mother myself. I realised that how she might felt I have become a mother myself. One would never know how their parents feel and go through provided they themselves have experienced it. It is so true.

I wonder how she able to take care 4 of us, doing household chores and earning some through tailoring at home. I wonder if she has dreams that she wanted to achieve but unable because of putting her 100% to the family?

There are so many questions that I would like to ask her but I can not…

Ministering

I was preparing a framed “Family: A Proclamation to the World” for Sister Peggy and wanted to give to her today. We have a talk before the Sacrament Meeting started.

We were talking about one of the sisters that are under Alvin and my care list as both if us are her ministering couple. After my release from the Primary calling, I want to improve my ministering work to the sisters under my care list.

Since Alvin is not around here due to his job is posted in Johor, thus I think it would be good if I could take up the ministering job and do our part as ministering couple.

Sister Sandy came to church today as she wanted to pass her tithing, she went off before the sacrament meeting end. I just managed to talk to her for awhile only. She asked me to go over to her workplace after church to visit her.

I told her that I can only able to go over after I came back home and settled with children lunch then only I would be able to go over. I did tell Sister Peggy about this and I would update her as well because she is the Relief Society President.

I went over to Sister Sandy’s workplace after I settled down the children and their lunch. Her workplace is a beauty saloon which is located at Bandar Puteri, opposite the Puteri Mart wet market.

It was about 3.13pm when I was there. Sister Sandy was busy with customer. It seems that there is a walk-in customer. So she asked me waited for awhile at the reception. She came out and we chit chat for about 10 minutes.

She mainly expressed her dissatisfaction on the things she facing on her works. More on relationship with her colleagues not so good. It seems that her colleague jealous for her sales. More on HR issues.

I just listened and asked her to be patience unless she would want to change a work environment. She told me that her previous job is less stress and she was getting along well with her boss and colleagues. But the pay there not so much.

Current job here is higher pay and may be that’s why have this sort of problems. I just told her that, may be just treat it as a learning path.

We did not talk much as she need to continue back work. And her lady boss was there too. She said she will call me tonight again after work. I advised her to be patience. And if got time, before sleep, write something. Something that remind us of the Savior, such as what are you grateful for today the Lord have done to you? Even a few lines is ok everyday.

She was troubled with the current issues related to her works. I think she just need a channel to express her unhappiness as I believe she has few friends. What can I do is be there for her to express all the negative or uneasiness within her at the moment, then only she can absorb what is positive and think about the Savior.

I did WhatsApp to Sister Peggy in the evening about my visit to Sister Sandy. She encouraged me that it is a good counsel that we just treat everything as a learning path, and most of the time we do not get anything we want in life to run smooth, the trick is to go along with it and get better in time.

Sister Peggy further encouraged for my efforts being an awesome ministering sister and a tool to Heavenly Father to reach out to one o His daughter. She asked me to stay faithful and steadfast in the gospel despite my challenges, as I will be guided and things will get better in time.

I know that the Lord will reveal to us and that is true especially when we seek His divine help to serve others.

Bringing Hope

I felt so stunned when I opened this video notification from the YouTube Mormon Channel. I seldom watch the YouTube when it come from Mormon Channel as I have a thought like as it is for the investigators. But anyhow I am grateful as I had watched it.

Ben Taylor tells of how he listened to his heart and turned the efforts of a presumed scam artist into a chance to help a whole village. “Hello sir my name is Joel I want 4 us to get into some business, if u can get some used Laptop, Computers, Printers, P.A. Sets and other Electronic Devices so dey can b sold faster.”

Ben Taylor heard about these internet scams before and felt he needed to teach the scammer a lesson. So, when he messaged back, little did he know he’d set off a chain of events that would empower an entire village. “Joel I’d like to talk with you about a different business opportunity…if you’re interested.”

Ben lied that he worked in the photography business and collected pictures from around the world. He asked Joel to take some photographs from his part of the world. Joel told him he needed a new camera to take pictures. Would you send someone you’ve never met a camera? Neither would Ben. “Joel, any camera will do, even the camera on your phone.”

“BING!” Joel’s first pictures came through and they were terrible! Maybe Joel really did need a better camera. So, Ben invested in a camera and some basic photography textbooks and shipped them to Joel. As Ben sent the package off to Liberia, he thought it would be the end of their communication, “This guy’s going to sell that camera and make some money and I’ll be out money.”

“BING!” a message from Joel came in a few weeks later. Bing, Bing. More messages with better and better images. Joel took that cheap camera, read the books and began taking really good photographs!

As Joel became a better photographer, Ben made good on his offer and compiled the images of village life in Liberia. Pretty soon Ben had enough good images to publish Joel’s book of photographs. When Ben took to social media and shared the story of their unlikely friendship, they inspired thousands of people, and made $1,000.

Ben and Joel planned to split the money from the book sales. But when Ben learned that $500 was the average earning per year in Liberia, he couldn’t, in good conscience, take his cut. “Give it to a charity or someone in need”, Ben was uncertain whether Joel would really give it to charity or pocket it for himself.

“Bing!” a message from Joel with picture after picture of school children holding new book bags and notebooks. Joel had supplied five local schools with much needed supplies.

Joel told Ben the opportunity to be charitable was one of the best things to come out of their friendship. Ben thought he was going to teach this internet scammer a lesson. But instead he learned the lesson. When you give someone a chance, sometimes they might let you down, or they might just surprise you.

I love the most what Ben was shared in the end of his story telling about this amazing journey of his:

“I think this story shows how prayers works. What Joel really wants and want he earnestly pray for was money. And instead what he got was a cheap camera, but with that camera he was able to inspire hope in million of people and changing his family life.

Sometimes I think instead of giving what you want, God will give you a cheap camera and He will expect you to figure out the rest. And then the journey it all take, will make all the difference.

God will answer prayers but sometimes He would need you to be that answer, my message today is that you should be that answer.

On days when I can’t find God and it seems like He doesn’t hear me and care about me in what is going on in my life, I return to situation a year ago when I know that He thought enough of me to send me a request for help. So take a chance on people, you will find something in your own life that you don’t even know what is missing.”

Instead of struggling what dwell in my own sadness, pains and keep on wondering why this thing happened to me, I should just focus the things that I can do. It is the same message that I feel as the Lord wants me to know.

Clara knows that she herself was her own answer to the path ahead of her in The Nutcracker and the Four Realms as I watched last Saturday. This is the same message that I get from this YouTube video. The Lord repeatedly telling me that I am His daughter. I am the answer of my path ahead. And, He knows that I can manage the trials that in front of me. I indeed feel His presence during the time of need.

Connect All the Dots…

Today I sat down and think… refresh my memories and connect back all the dots and lines which I had been encountered for the past few days. I am indeed amazed!

For the past few days I was too blind and too deaf to hear the communications or the messages from Heavenly Father that I really missed had I not been striving to hear it and see it. Heavenly Father was and is trying to reach out to me everyday!

On last Friday, I received Sister Saffron message through WhatsApp. It was President Dieter F. Uchtdorf about Faith. “Faith comes to the humble, the diligent, the enduring.”

WhatsApp Image 2018-11-09 at 6.43.37 AM

I was just read it through and did not put into my heart. I remembered that I did come across the scripture line that asked me to have faith in Heavenly Father and be humble, meekness and pray to Him.

On last Saturday, Sister Saffron sent this message to me, Elder Ronald A. Rasband said, “I begin by reminding you that you are a son or daughter of a loving Father in Heaven...” I too just read through the message and did not put into my heart at all.

WhatsApp Image 2018-11-10 at 4.27.36 PM

I remembered that on Saturday,  I was watching The Nutcracker and the Four Realms as part of our programme in celebrating Issac’s birthday. Clara receives an egg-shaped box from her father as it is a present that her late mother given to her before she died.

The egg-shaped box which she is unable to unlock, together with a note saying "Everything you need is inside". While Clara’s godfather, a skilled engineer Drosselmeyer were talking to her in the movie, I sort of sensed that The Lord is talking to me in the movie too. And it has been as the Lord is telling me that I am His child, do not be afraid.

1_rY9uvKSf6G_g2WmnSbWwLw

Finally Clara managed to open her egg-shaped music box and discover a mirror, illustrating that all she needed was herself. This message as it was from the Lord, was telling me that I am the answer to all my fear and troubles. He was telling me that I have a great talent that I have ever know. I am the key of all the questions and puzzles of all. I can feel His love at that instant.

Heavenly Father is reaching out to me everyday to tell me in every ways the things He wants me to know. It is really so miracle that the message each day is the same, just I did not see it! This is really a testimony that I have and I would not want to forget, and how the power of ministering able to reach to those who need.

df4132ae297f8b13bc8ae37cd655244a

All these sequences of spiritual experiences made me realise that I have to do in the Lord’s will. If I am too anxiously want the end results (prayer) in my will, I will feel lost… I think that was the reason being why I was worrying and troubling for the whole week.

Heavenly Father indeed knows me very well… That was the reason why He sent Sister E Chin to talk to me last Sunday. Suddenly for this instance, I just feel like, I am not a so obedient child at all, till Heavenly Father have to ‘speak loud’ to me on my face. I was too upset and that was the reason why hinder me from seeing and feeling.

Clara's_Egg_Shaped_Music_Box

This is the closest that I can feel and start to understand how Heavenly Father talk and answer my prayers. I really would not want to forget these precious moments for the rest of my life…

IMG_5923

We were sending Alvin to the KLIA2 as he was taken the earliest flight back to Johor Bahru, after which I send both children to their school. We had our breakfast at 24 Hours KFC which is just near Mecaje this morning.

I know that there are still a lot of things will happened in front of our marriage journey, but the Lord let me knows that He is always there beside me, even though I cannot sense it or feel His presence because of I was too focus on my sadness, anxiety, worries that had blocked me from listening and feel Him.

LDS Sister Linda K. Burton’s Visit to Kuala Lumpur

IMG_1956Today is Valentine’s Day. Alvin and I do not celebrate this day for so many years, even though sometimes my heart would want to, but may be the lovers kind of feelings was really subsided long time ago in his mind.

Anywhere, our Church have an unprecedented visit from one of the leader of the Church’s auxiliary organizations.

She is Sister Linda K. Burton, our General President of the Relief Society of the Church of Latter-day Saints. Kuala Lumpur was one stop on her travels that included India, Malaysia, Indonesia, Hong Kong and Taiwan.

IMG_1952It is the first time that a Church auxiliary president has officially visits Malaysia. I was so happy and eagerly to attend.

Alvin and both Issac and Annabelle sent me to PJ Chapel and we had our dinner just at the Restaurant Mama Mia next to the Church. They went back home after dinner.

The chapel was filled to overflowing with smiling women sixteen years of age and older. They assembled from Malacca, Klang, Kuala Lumpur, Cheras, Petaling Jaya and Subang Jaya.

Sister Burton was accompanied by her husband, Craig, Elder Randy D. Funk, the Asia Area President and his wife Andrea, and President Stephen A. Simmons, the Singapore Mission President and his wife, Elizabeth.

IMG_1957President Tolman, our Kuala Lumpur District President gave the opening remarks. Later which, Elder Funk and Sister Funk, President Simmons and Sister Elizabeth too, addressed to the sisters.

“We are part of a great worldwide sisterhood,” said Sister Linda K. Burton. In her touching address to the women, Sister Burton told stories of women from all over the world who help one another, who lift and serve each other and who do what is right and good.

A theme present in Sister Burton’s addresses was the message that our Heavenly Father knows each of us by name, and loves each of us. We are all His children. He desires to bless us, and He wants us to care for one another.

IMG_1955She gave encouragement as she said, “The Lord can work miracles through us (women) in our homes, in our personal lives, and as we work in the Church. Sometimes we beat ourselves up, thinking we are not enough. He (The Lord) loves you for every effort you give to be better today than yesterday, in your homes and in the Church.”

Sister Burton continued with words from a favourite Church song, Hymn #309, “The errand of angels is given to women; And this is a gift that, as sisters, we claim: To do whatsoever is gentle and human, To cheer and to bless in humanity’s name.”

In counsel, she offered a plea to refrain from judgment and criticism, to remember prayer, and to stay on the covenant path that leads to our goal of eternal life with our Father in Heaven.

IMG_1961This can be accomplished by filling our lives with the things that matter most in life like scripture study, prayer, and helping others. She said to find joy in life, to be a witness of God the Father and His Son, Jesus Christ.

After the meeting, all the sisters were so excited and took selfie with Sister Burton, had few words with her and hugs. This is quite a spiritual night for us.

Chinese New Year Gifts for Friends 17 Feb 2015

IMG_0440As usual like previous years, we will prepare hamper or gift basket for Aunty Joyce during Chinese New Year season. This has been a few years since our children started their day care with her. May be this little thing counts in keeping and showing the respect and maintaining our relationships. We have becomes like family friends.

Last year, I did prepare a box of mandarin oranges to Aunty Joyce. This year, thinking of buying something whereby she could use in her cooking, may be some Chinese cuisine ingredients. Then so happened I found it at Soon Thye Hang, do not know whether it will suit her, at least a simple gift for this Chinese New Year.

IMG_0439 At the same time, I bought a small hamper basket for Mahkota Tuition Centre too, for Kim Tai. This is both our children first year day care at the new place.

Alvin is thinking that, this would be the best for both children as the teachers there are able to help them on their studies and homework coaching better, especially in their Mandarin subjects.

Both were so surprised that received our little thoughts on these. I told them, we were and are glad too that our children were and are in their good hands, in nurturing them… ^^
