Pulau Ketam 5-6 Mar 2011

This is our first time going to Pulau Ketam as a family. I just packed some clothing as we intend to stay at one of the inn or hotel there for a night.

We took the KTM from Subang to Port Klang, a journey of nearly 45 minutes to an hour. It was children’s first time on the KTM train, so it was quite an experience for them.

                        

From Port Klang, we get to Pulau Ketam via the ferry, the fare is RM7.00 and the duration is about 30 minutes. Of coarse there is another type private speedboat RM10.00 and only take you 15 minutes to reach Pulau Ketam. We chose the ferry.

               

               

Pulau Ketam literally means Crab Island. In the late 1800s, Hainanese fisherman from Port Klang arrived at this island where they caught crabs and sold them for a living. Initially they went to and fro every day, which was a long journey because there were no speedboats back then.

               

               

After a few months, they built a small house on the swampland so they could stay the night. Eventually the swampland, regarded as an island became populated. And that was how Pulau Ketam was born.

               

               

We were walking around in the town. There are bikes to rent for RM5 per day,  we saw many tourists cycle and explore the island, whizzing past people’s homes and unsuspecting villagers. A lot eateries such as fried ice-cream, assorted shaved ice dessert, seafood.

                  

Daddy was so happy to be here as he could polishing his photography skills. Every object is his subject: temple, jetty, a man whom was apparently collecting the clams, sun set, sea, fishing boats, etc.

                   

We do stayed a night there in one of the small inn. When the day-trippers are gone, we can enjoy the calm, quietness and simplicity of the fishing village. At evening towards night time, the tide rises and the fishermen go to sea. They return by dawn and it is good to wake up early and check all those activities on the dock.

               

We woke up early in the morning but not that early to see the fishing boats but to have a morning walk to explore the places which we didn’t manage to yesterday. We had our breakfast and checked out the inn and headed towards the jetty for the ferry.

               

Not bad at all for a short getaway and for kids explorations how other people live.

Alphabet Book : d

This week for the Alphabet Book, we made donut. Mummy was puzzling on some left over craft papers or the drawing blocks backings, how can recycle back for our art craft works. Then, thinking of Issac loves to eat donuts. Here comes for the word for the letter ‘d’ this week. For this craft, we use some recycle materials for it.

You will need:

• The used drawing block cardboard backing
• A piece of paper
• White glue
• Hole Puncher
• Left over colour papers
• Colour Pencils or Crayon

To Make:

1. Cut out large donut shape using the used drawing block cardboard backing.
2. Coloured the donut with colour pencil or crayon.
3. Used white glue to paste it on top of a piece of paper.
4. Use the hole puncher to punch out the colourful colour papers as ‘confetti’. We used yellow, red and orange colour papers.
5. Sprinkle the ‘confetti’ on top of the donut for decoration.

Daddy said the donuts looks like a real one.

d is for daisy

We started out our week with lowercase letter ‘d’ for daisy. Issac knows that this is a flower, I think that he must be learned that through the class in his kindergarten. And he knew that the flower have two colours which is white and yellow. His petals is small oval shape. He added in the stem and leaves itself, the stem is the green colour construction paper.

Belle’s daisy petals is bigger oval shape in size compared to Issac one. Then, as usual she will scribble on her paper.

What You’ll Need:

• Green, yellow, and white foam {or construction paper}
• glue and/or tape
• scissors

How to Make the ‘d’ for daisy:

1. Cut out a lowercase ‘d’ from a piece of green foam sheet. To make the letters go along with the uppercase letters we’ve done in the past, this letter was cut from a piece of foam that was about 4” x 5”.
2. Cut an oval/circle out of the yellow foam to use for the centre of the daisy.
3. Cut out petals for the daisy using the white foam.
4. Glue or tape the yellow centre to the back of the letter ‘d’.
5. Add the flower petals to your daisy and have fun reading the book again!

Our Aeroplane 27 Feb 2011

This time Issac build up an aeroplane by using his jumbo bricks, and Annabelle did a small plane with a pilot.

        

Alphabet Book : D

Doctor Kit ~ This is the great one as Mummy never think of this before, so the kids were thrilled to see the first aid stuffs. I pulled out whatever supplies I had {that were safe} for the kids to stick in their Doctor Bags.

You'll Need:

• Black, white, and red construction paper
• Scissors
• Glue and tape
• Q-tips, large craft stick, bandaids, a cotton ball, gauze bandage and other 'medical' supplies you might have around {that are safe for preschoolers}

To Make:

1. From the black construction paper, cut out a rectangle for the doctor's bag as well as two handles. Fold the black rectangle in half to make the bag. Glue the handles onto the bag.
2. Cut out two thin rectangles from the red construction paper and glue together to make a 'red cross'.
3. Cut out a white circle and glue your 'red cross' on. Glue the circle and cross onto your bag.
4. Open the bag and glue/tape all of your medical supplies into the bag.
5. Glue your doctor's bag onto your alphabet sheet.

This is really something fun and look alike to the real one.

D is for Dinosaur

We made our 'D' shaped craft - a cute little dinosaur this week.

What You'll Need

• Green foam sheet or construction paper {I used two different colours}
• Scissors
• Pen {to trace letter}
• Googly eyes
• Glue

To Make the Dinosaur

1. Trace and cut an uppercase 'D' out of the foam sheet or construction paper. Mummy using yellow and green construction papers here.
2. Using the extra foam, cut out several triangles for the dinosaurs back.
3. Cut out four rectangles to use as 'legs', an oval for his head, a neck and a tail.
4. Glue the legs, tail and neck onto the back of the letter 'D'.
5. Flip the dinosaur over and add his head, scales and eye

Daddy said it do not look like a dinosaur but more like a green turtle back. Hmm… kids having fun doing it, is enough for me…

Fo Guang Shan Dong Zen Temple Jenjarom 19 Feb 2011

We were going to FGS Dong Zen Temple (FGS stands for Fo Guang Shan) today.

We thought it would be a good reason and occasion to visit the FGS dong Zen Temple at Jenjarom and just in time to see their Chinese New Year Lantern & Flora Decoration as it is still within the 15 days of Chinese New Year.

Every Chinese New Year FGS would puts on a Lantern & Flora Festival and the whole place is transformed into a glittering wonderland of red lanterns, digital lights, illuminated gardens and colorful displays when the night fall.

But even during the daytime and throughout the year there are still attractions to see. This is our first time being here.

The temple complex is huge. I am so impressed that there is such considered sizable temple here, in a small little village called Jenjarom near Banting.

Among the attractions are the Main Main Shrine with a large seated Buddha statue, 18 statues of Arhats and 33 statues of Avalokitesvara Bodhisattva  around the compound of the Temple.

There is a Lumbini Gardens with orchid displays, fish ponds and models of famous Buddhist sacred places in India, Zen Garden, Wishing Pool, a Tea House too.

There are a Dining halls, lecture halls and meditation halls, a Souvenir corner, Kiddy land, An Art Gallery with artefacts exhibition, a calligraphy hall and a Relics Shrine and a Fo Guang Shan Education Exhibition which is ongoing.

So happened this time around there is a ferries wheels, and I accompanied Issac and Annabelle went up and have a ride on it, and Daddy stayed on the ground as he wanted to take our photos from the ground.

               

                  

Well, these are a few statues or sculptures which displayed at the Art gallery which is the on going exhibition.

These are all the flowers which are planted nicely in the gardens of the Dong Zen Temple, are nicely landscape out.

               

                

                 

After all the running around in the garden, it was so tiring and let’s sit down and rest for a while!

                 

               

We were on the ferries wheels! It is a great outing!
