Dots . Lines . Circles 18 May – 2 June 2013

IMG_0968 “Dots, lines, circles are the basic elements of painting.  Art derives from our daily lives.  It is the experiences from our daily lives that give inspiration to the formation of dots, lines and circles in art.”

“10 years ago, artists Yap Hong Ngee and Jane Yap jointly held an art exhibition entitled “6028” at Wisma Kebudayaan SGM for the first time. After 10 years, they return with the prime spirit of “dots, lines and circles”, and to begin a new milestone in their artistic journey. This exhibition is not simply an art exhibition, but also a wonderful dialogue between the father and the daughter. Many changes can occur within these 10 years, be it in art or in their lives.”

IMG_1192 “Yap Hong Ngee said: “In a flash of time, I am already 70 years old. There is an old saying that goes, ‘It is rare to live up to 70 years old’, but for me, 70 is just the beginning.” With this youthful heart, he continues to travel this long artistic road with his daughter, both armed with a strong sense of curiosity and seeking spirit to develop and explore the wonders of art.”

That is what Dots . Lines . Circles all about. An art exhibition by both father and daughter.

Jane Yap is both Issac and Annabelle art teacher. Jane Yap Atelier which is at Ara Damansara Citta Mall. I was so excited ever since I knew that both Teacher Jane and her dad are having an art exhibition together.

IMG_1193 Her dad Yap Hong Ngee is a very famous artist here in Malaysia, for his modern contemporary art in Chinese painting especially in drawing sparrows and flowers. He combined both traditional and modern in his paintings or artworks, in his own style. Teacher Jane Yap is more on cats. She loves to draw cats.

I drove down to the Wisma Kebudayaan SGM which is at Kuala Lumpur. We just have a visit to the art exhibition. Personally, I love Yap Hong Ngee’s art better, may be I am not very fond of cats. I love the sparrows very much. It really do reflect the messages in the paintings itself; Of coarse, there is something different in Teacher Jane’s cat. It is so simple and clean.

Both Issac and Annabelle love Teacher Jane cats. May be it is because at least cats wouldn’t be so boring.

IMG_1202 There was an art activity which organised by the SGM. Every each child was given a board and a piece of paper. There was a few dots and lines on the papers.

The children were asked to just draw whatever they like on the paper, just follow their imagination. So, Issac and Annabelle were sitting down drawing, while I was looking at the pieces of art works.

I thought we were meeting Yap Hong Ngee but I am not too sure on that. Any how, we were enjoying the day out. After the art exhibition, we went to Sunway Pyramid Shopping Mall. The children were playing archery and we have our dinner there before we left to home.
