Kuala Lumpur National Planetarium 16 Mar 2014

IMG_4877 We are aware that there is a National Planetarium nearby the Kuala Lumpur Bird Park area, but we did not bring the kids go there often. Situated at the hill of Kuala Lumpur Lake Garden, surrounding by National Mosque, National Museum and Bird Park, National Planetarium is the place where the journey to space begin.

Combination of the Islamic architecture and astronomy, makes the National Planetarium resembles a mosque, but combined with a futuristic look. The planetarium cannot be considered as very attractive, but might serve as an information centre about the involvement of Malaysia in space programmes.

CYMERA_20140316_123449 We went to National Planetarium by driving up the hill, the parking areas for visitors are limited. We just went in to the exhibition galleries as we do not aware there are outdoor Ancient Observatory Park.

The exhibition galleries starts with our Solar System, the history of space exploration then only come to the history of Malaysia space project, and the most excited part is the observatory tower.

CYMERA_20140316_113545 There are many displays on the robots or vehicles used for space exploration. The exhibition shows the space science experiments done by our very own first Malaysia Angkasawan, Dr. Sheikh Muszaphar.

We went for the space planetarium shows. It was interesting to watch large format film played on the dome because it feels like we were on the outer space ourselves! Unfortunately, I got a bit dizzy after the shows.

CYMERA_20140316_113411 We spent an overall an hour and half at National Planetarium. I would say it is a good place to go with the older kids who should appreciate the scientific displays and everything space-related.

That is the reason why we put this destination back to the end of our mind. Younger children would not know what are they seeing and touching, it is just to specific for them.

Anyhow, the observatory tower was a great one, we can the overall view of Kuala Lumpur City Centre from high. Well, this is how we spent another weekend with the children.
