Mormon Helping Hands ~ Relief Efforts for Peninsular Malaysia East Coast Flood Victims 3 Jan 2015

Hygiene_and_food Due to the unprecedented December heavy down pours, East Coast of Peninsular Malaysia had experienced the worst floods in 30 years, which affected several states especially the northern and eastern regions, displacing over 200,000 people from their homes. Our church have organized an event to prepare some relief packets to those whom was affected.

The event was organized by LDS Charities Humanitarian Specialists, Sid and Linda Thatcher, under the direction of District President Paul Dass, who leads the six congregations located in Klang Valley. LDS Charities strives to provide immediate emergency assistance to victims of natural disasters, civil unrest, or famine.

Hygiene_Kit_LineThis is our family first time ever charity activity which we participated in our church. We were asked to be at the church by 9:00am. After we reached and had our breakfast at the nearby Kopitiam, it was almost about 9:30am. Church members already in the PJ chapel for the works need to be done, and started.

I was amazed by the numbers of the church members which flocked to PJ chapel, they are from Cheras branch, Kuala Lumpur branch, Puchong branch, Klang branch, Petaling Jaya branch and our own Subang Jaya branch. All of us are ready to provide service for the flood victims.

Many_Hands_in_Food_lineThere were 2 assembly line – hygiene supplies and food supplies. I joined the hygiene assembly line, Annabelle was with me too. We were packing all the soaps, toothbrushes, tooth pastes, small towels, sarongs, sanitary pads, etc; Food assembly line, I can see the Milo, instants Mee Maggi, biscuits, sardines, mineral waters, and a lot more. Daddy and Issac were with the final packing line, where they need to pack all the packets into the big boxes.

With donations from LDS Charities, 1000 hygiene kits and 1000 "food kits" were assembled into a relief packet. The packet included food and hygiene supplies for a family of three to last for 48 hours. All of the church members from young adults, families with children, and senior citizens joined in the “Helping Hands”.

Ready_for_the_LorryI felt the warmth and joy in my heart and overwhelming as I saw so many of us rendered the services, even our small little children trying to help. It gave me an impressions that is – we teach our children by living as an example, teaching them from small how we are able to follow Jesus Christ – serve one another.

After the kits were assembled and boxed, a truck was loaded and sent to the Red Crescent Society (Red Cross) who will deliver the goods to the flood stricken area.

We feel happy and are  grateful for the blessings from Heavenly Father and for the opportunity to serve those affected by the flooding, even though we are not there but at least a little that we are able to help and do. Both children also happy on they are able to do works to help ^^.
